About

New Hope for Eastern Oregon Animals was incorporated in 2010 as a charitable non-profit organization to benefit animals in Eastern Oregon. Our goal is to improve the lives of animals through kindness, understanding and respect. Our purpose is to rescue and rehabilitate dogs in Eastern Oregon, increase awareness of animal well-being, decrease the amount of unwanted litters of cats and dogs, and encourage a caring and safe environment for all animals.

Located in Baker City

Site information:

  • Unstaffed

  • Holding facility with kennels and fenced yards

  • Feral cat colonies (fixed population)

Support for Dog Owners:

We offer free coaching and feedback for owners working with dogs on behavioral issues.

Important Notes:

  • New Hope does not take in cats.

  • Dog surrenders require prior contact and approval by a New Hope volunteer and available space.

  • Due to the popularity of the dog training program, we usually operate at full capacity and cannot accept additional dogs.

Volunteers & Partnerships

New Hope does not employ, but relies entirely on volunteers to carry out all day-to-day duties. Volunteer numbers vary each year, averaging around 12 people. A major responsibility is dog walking, exercise, and daily care, performed seven days a week.

In addition, New Hope partners with the Oregon Department of Corrections. Adults in Custody (8–15 men at a time) help care for, exercise, and train homeless dogs, which live on-site 24/7. These men are employees of the Powder River Correctional Facility.

Funding

New Hope operates primarily on donations and occasional grants.

The Feral Cat Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Program is run in partnership with the City of Baker City, which contributes annually toward program costs.
